Freida Pinto Talks to Audience at Milken Institute School of Public HealthAn estimated 62 million girls around the world fail to reach their full potential because they are denied a right to an education, actress Freida Pinto told audience members at an October 9, 2015 event at Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University (Milken Institute SPH). The event, held in celebration of International Day of the Girl, focused on the film “Girl Rising” and its accompanying campaign that work to solve this problem through awareness and the power of storytelling.

After a film screening, Pinto and “Girl Rising” Producer Martha Adams took to the stage to discuss the documentary, its mission and the issues at hand in a conversation moderated by Lynn R. Goldman, Michael and Lori Milken Dean of Milken Institute SPH.

Amita Vyas, associate professor of prevention and community health who worked as a producer with Pinto on the Hindi version of the film, said that she loves the film because “it inspires action…But what that action is, is up to you.”
