Beverly J. Westerman is a Professor and Vice Chair in the Department of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences.

Professor Westerman has been affiliated with GW for over three decades in the capacities of clinician, educator, and student. As head athletic trainer of its Athletic Department, she coordinated all aspects of health care for the University's athletes. While working in that role, and teaching as an adjunct faculty member, Dr. Westerman also pursued a doctorate degree, which she completed in 1999, shortly before being appointed to the School's faculty. In addition to her teaching and vice chair responsibilities, Dr. Westerman is Director of the BS in Exercise Science Program.  Dr. Westerman was appointed the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative for GW in 2019,  A position she still holds.

An active member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association (NATA), Dr. Westerman has served in many capacities. She was the host committee chair for the 2004 annual meeting and symposium in Baltimore, MD.  She also was recognized for her service to the profession with the NATA's Athletic Training Service Award in 2004.  In 2020, Dr. Westerman was elected to the Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers' Association's (MAATA) Hall of Fame.  In 2022 she was inducted into the District of Columbia Athletic Trainers' Association (DCATA) Hall of Fame.

Professor Westerman is trained in CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and serves as an American Red Cross volunteer instructor.  She was a long time member of Arlington County's Community Emergency Response Team (CERT). Passionate about disaster animal rescue, she also volunteers for several animal rescue groups, including SPCA International. She has traveled extensively to assist in rescuing and sheltering domestic pets and livestock after large-scale domestic or international disasters.

In addition to her interest in the athletic training field, Dr. Westerman's research has focused on athletic injury, injury prevention, and the use of athletic trainers in ambulatory care settings.
