Departmental Resources for Students

As a GW student, you have many resources at your disposal through your department, the school, and the university as a whole. For a list of school and university resources available to all Milken Institute School of Public Health students, check out the Student Resources page.

Below are some additional resources (beyond what is found on the student resources page), that have been selected as being specifically relevant and useful to undergraduate public health students.

Undergraduate Forms

On the main school academic forms page, students may access many commonly used forms that may need approval signatures from an advisor, dean or professor.  Commonly used forms for undergraduate students are:

  • Registration Transaction Form
  • GWSPH Undergraduate Independent Study Policy and Form
  • Professional Enhancement Form
  • The GWSPH Undergraduate Petition

For student who would like credit for Study Abroad courses, please fill out the Course Approval Request form and attach a syllabus to the form. The form may be found here: http://studyabroad.gwu.edu/transferring-credit . Send the completed form and syllabus to gwsphadmit@email.gwu.edu.

Career Services

The Milken Institute School of Public Health offers a wide array of career services to our undergraduate students.  The public health Career Services office is located on the 2nd floor of the public health building.  In addition, you can take advantage of the programs and services of the GW Center for Career Services, located on the 5th floor of the Marvin Center.

Both Public Health career services and the GW Center for Career Services host and promote a variety of job fairs as well as programs throughout the year, including workshops, site visits, employer information sessions, etc. These events are posted on the GWork site and often mentioned in the Weekly Student Update newsletter. Career Services staff are also available to help you with interviewing skills, resume reviews, job search tips, and one-on-one meetings to help with your career planning.

In addition, all of our students receive the Weekly Student Update newsletter via email. The newsletter includes a career services section with details about events, opportunities, and career tips. There are also a number of resources on the Career Center section of our website, including a public health-specific jobs database and a link to the GW Public Health Students LinkedIn group.

Mentoring Program

The BS in Public Health program is proud to offer a faculty mentoring program to our majors.  Each major may select a member of the undergraduate faculty as a mentor. This mentor is available to students for non-academic advising, helping students with questions about career options, graduate school, job resources etc.  Our faculty mentoring program provides students with valuable avenue to get to know our professors outside of the classroom.

Student Representatives

Each year we select student representatives to the program so we can make sure student concerns are heard and addressed.  We have a junior and senior class representative (we ask the junior class representative commit to becoming the senior class representative) and a Public Health Student Association representative. Together, these students work closely with the undergraduate Program Director and Program Advisor to make the public health program the best it can be.

Current Representatives:

Sr Class Rep: Alexandra Eterno  (aeterno@gwmail.gwu.edu)
Sr. PHSA Rep: Megan Culhane (mculhane@gwmail.gwu.edu)

Jr Class Rep: Lindsay Goodman (lindsay1213@gwmail.gwu.edu)
Jr PHSA Rep: Carley Grable (carleygrable@gwmail.gwu.edu)

Undergraduate Orientation

At the beginning of each fall semester, the undergraduate public health program holds an orientation for new BSPH majors. This is an opportunity for students to learn more about the program, including graduation requirements and support services, meet each other, and meet members of the faculty. It is usually schedule for the second Friday of Fall semester, but students will receive a letter confirming the date/time.
