Faculty Governance

Faculty participation in the governance of a department, the School, or the University, is outlined in the George Washington University Faculty Code and University Faculty Organization Plan, and the Bylaws of the Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH).

Milken Institute School of Public Health Bylaws describe the administration and governance of the School and its School-wide committees, and of the departments and their departmental committees.

Faculty Governance, University

The George Washington University Faculty Code contains the following information: Grades of Academic Personnel; Academic Freedom; Professional Responsibilities; Appointment, Reappointment, Promotion, and Tenure; Termination of Service; Leave; Retirement; Retirement Annuity; Faculty Role in University Decision Making; Rights, Privileges, and Resolution of Disputes; Health Service. It also includes Procedures for Implementation in governance of departments and schools; faculty participation in action concerning faculty membership; faculty consultation and recommendation in the selection and continuance of academic administrative officers; faculty participation in action concerning curriculum; Procedures for implementation of Article X (resolution of disputes); and procedures for dismissal of a faculty member with cause.

The GW Faculty Organization Plan defines the organization and procedures for University faculty governance, including the University Faculty Assembly, University Faculty Senate, and Standing Committees of the University Faculty Senate.

The University Faculty Senate web site contains agendas and minutes of University Faculty Senate meetings as well as information on organization and procedures for University governance.
