So…What Do You Do, Exactly? How to Talk about the Value of Your Research
Date: Tuesday, November 17 Time: 3:00-4:00 p.m. EST

As you head home for the holidays, or attend numerous holiday parties, you’re likely to get the question: “What do you do, exactly?” But what people may actually be asking when they ask this is, “How does what you do matter?” Join our webinar to learn how to navigate this question with science communication tools.

From Aristotle to South Park: The ABT Framework as a New Tool for Science Communication
Date: Tuesday, December 1  Time: 2:00-3:00 p.m. EST

Twenty years ago, scientist-turned-filmmaker Randy Olson left his tenured professorship of marine biology for Hollywood. He had a single goal — the search for something that might improve the communication of science. He found it in a narrative template he crafted and labeled as the “And, But, Therefore” template (the ABT). In this webinar he will present the ABT and how he has expanded it into The Narrative Spectrum, present examples of it working with scientists, and talk about the universal importance of narrative structure. UCS is proud to present this webinar, along with the Society for Conservation Biology and AGU & the AGU Sharing Science program.
