The Health Insurance Mandate, DC and Congress. 

HPM’s Leighton Ku recently wrote about Congressional efforts to override DC’s new individual health insurance requirement, which he helped develop as a board member for the DC Health Benefits Exchange Authority.  DC’s law was a response to the termination of the Affordable Care Act’s federal individual mandate included in December’s tax legislation and was designed to keep insurance premiums from spiraling up and causing thousands of DC residents to lose insurance coverage.  The action by the House of Representatives was part of a broader effort to limit self-governance by DC.  It appears unlikely that the Senate will agree to this change.  Read more
