Dear GW community,
With so many recent acts of violence against Asian Americans, many of us have been hurting with and for our Asian American colleagues. Those of us at the GW Hospital and the School of Medicine and Health Sciences wondered how we could come together and stand in solidarity with our Asian American and Pacific Islander colleagues. With May being the Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, we believed it would be a wonderful opportunity to organize a rally and show our unity in these times of division and racism against all minorities.
On Thursday, May 6th at 1 PM EST, there will be a White Coats Against Asian Hate and Racism rally in front of Ross Hall Courtyard. If you are part of the medical community and have a white coat, please bring one. But even if you are not, please join us in our rally to show your support. The strength of the GW community, with its numerous branches and entities, is our very own diversity. It would be an honor to have each and every one of you at the event to celebrate diversity and inclusion, as well as stand against racism.
The event will last from 1 pm to 1:30 pm approximately. We will have a moment of silence for the recent victims of hatred, including those from the Atlanta shooting a few weeks ago. We will also have several speakers who will speak on their own experiences of racism and also what we in the medical community or part of the greater GW community can do to be there for each other and stand against racism.
