Dean Lynn R. Goldman Chaired IOM Workshop on Ebola Virus Disease

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) and the National Research Council hosted a public workshop on November 3, 2014 to look at ways the United States can protect the American public from the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD). The workshop, which was chaired by Lynn R. Goldman, MD, MPH, dean of Milken Institute School of Public Health, was conducted to provide a forum for decision makers and to explore some of the immediate research and science questions about EVD. Answers to such questions are urgently needed to understand the routes of virus transmission, effective methods of virus inactivation and appropriate ways to prevent the spread of the disease, Dr. Goldman said at the public meeting.

The IOM recently issued a 10-page brief that summarizes the November 3 workshop on Ebola. To obtain a copy of the brief please contact the National Academy of Sciences at news@nas.edu.
