Milken Institute SPH Associate Professor Named Faculty Athletics Representative

Beverly Westerman, an associate professor of exercise and nutrition sciences at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH), has been named GW’s new faculty athletics representative.

In this new role, Westerman will champion academic success and promote the welfare of student athletes. She will represent the faculty’s concerns about the Department of Athletics and Recreation and GW’s 27 varsity programs and help ensure student-athletes prioritize academic success and complete their degree programs. She will also play a role in overseeing NCAA and Atlantic 10 Conference compliance efforts.

Westerman was appointed to the Milken Institute SPH faculty in 1999 and leads the undergraduate exercise science program. She has been affiliated with GW for more than 30 years as a clinician, educator and student. Westerman will serve in this new role through June 2022.

“Our student-athletes are some of our best and brightest,” Westerman said. “I’m hoping that I can be a good representative to bring that out even more and make sure faculty understand the rigors of being a student athlete.”
