Research Days 2019
The Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH) is an integral contributor to GW Research Days! We invite undergraduate, graduate (residential and online), postdoctoral students and alumni to take advantage of this opportunity. Alumni listed as the primary presenter at Research Days 2019 should have graduated no earlier than June 2017 and had not submitted to Research Days before. Participants can create and present an in-person poster or a video presentation. Current students, recent alumni, and staff members that are students will be eligible for awards.

Eligible students can earn 1 hour of Professional Enhancement Activities for each:
Attending the SPH keynote speaker presentation
People’s Choice Judging of Presentations
Poster printing for current SPH students and recent alumni will be available through the GW SPH Office of Research Excellence
The first step for GWSPH entrants is to submit abstracts to the OVPR website by February 28. All entrants will have the option of presenting their poster (in person) to judges on Research Day at Marvin Center on April 10 OR submitting a video poster presentation through the Himmelfarb Research Day 2019 portal by April 3. The details for both in-person poster presentations and video presentations are presented below. All presenters must submit an abstract.
For GWSPH awards, judges will consist of GWSPH faculty with the exception of the People’s Choice award, which is open to the general GW community. For more information on GW’s Research Days, please visit the website.
Acquire your faculty mentor’s or advisor’s approval for abstract submission (required).
Create your abstract and submit online by Thursday, February 28 via this link.
Create your poster and present in person or via a video presentation.
For students presenting at Marvin Center, obtain a voucher from the GWSPH Office of Research Excellence and print your poster at FedEx/Kinko’s (paid by GWSPH) by April 3.
For GWSPH students submitting a video poster presentation, submit your poster template AND your video online by Wednesday, April 3 via this link.
An advisor/mentor can be any faculty member who is either working with you or supervising your work; they do not need to be a GW faculty member. For faculty advisor/mentors outside of GW, please provide their name and department/institution affiliation. Advisor/mentor will need to approve your abstract prior to submission by February 28. All advisor/mentors will receive notification of your abstract submission.
Regardless of whether you choose to present in-person or using a video, you must submit an abstract here.

Plan ahead!! FOR CURRENT SPH STUDENTS, RECENT ALUMNI, AND STAFF MEMBERS WHO ARE TAKING COURSES: Posters can be printed from now up until April 5, but you need to first obtain a voucher.
The GW SPH Dean’s Office of Research Excellence will support students’ poster printing costs of up to $100 at FedEx/Kinkos.
- To obtain a voucher for poster production, send an email request to GWSPHResearch@gwu.edu. Include your name, GWID, department, and program.
- An email confirming your eligibility with and your voucher for poster production will be sent to you within 48 hours during business hours.
- After you receive your voucher, email your poster as a pdf document to Usa1815@fedex.com and include your voucher number and cc: GWSPHResearch@gwu.edu. Allow 24 to 48 hours for poster printing. All 48”x48” posters will require an additional day for printing.
- Go to the FedEx Office Print and Ship Center (Kinkos), 2020 K Street NW (http://local.fedex.com/dc/
washington/office-1815/) to pick up your poster. Posters can only be printed at this location with the voucher. Be prepared to present your voucher and GWID for student verification.
- Set up your poster at the Marvin Center on the morning of April 10 per OVPR instructions. Poster presentations are 12:30 - 3:00pm on April 10.

Judges Choice Marvin Center Poster Award: Projects deemed as the most outstanding research at each level based on scoring of required criteria. This award will include:
- Undergraduate: First prize $200, second runner-up $100
- Masters: First prize $300, second runner-up $150
- Doctoral: First prize $400, second runner-up $200
- Recent Alumni and Research Staff: First prize $400, second runner-up $200
Judges Choice Video Submission Award: Projects deemed as the most outstanding research based on scoring of required criteria. One award ($300).
*People’s Choice Award: Awarded by attendees on Research Day for the project receiving the most votes. A link to voting will be provided at Marvin Center on April 10 during poster presentations from 1:00PM – 3:00 PM. One award ($200).
*Current GWSPH students may earn one Professional Enhancement credit hour for casting their vote: People’s Choice.
*Eligible candidates must be an enrolled student or recent alumni.
