Professor warns Congress that sweeping piece of legislation would affect nearly all women in the United States
SPHHS Professor Susan Wood Testifies on Capitol Hill
Susan F. Wood, PhD, an associate professor of health policy and of environmental and occupational health and the Executive Director of the Jacobs Institute of Women’s Health, appeared before the U.S. House of Representatives at a hearing held by the Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice on January 9 to offer testimony on the legislation titled: No Taxpayer Funding For Abortion Act. Wood told lawmakers that this bill would virtually eliminate abortion coverage from the private insurance market and deny tax credits to small businesses that want to offer abortion coverage to their employees. “This bill is a sweeping piece of legislation that would affect nearly all women in this country and would do significant harm to many,” she told lawmakers.
The text of the testimony and more information about the hearing is available on the US Congress Committee on the Judiciary's website.
