COVID-19 Rapid Response Team

Groups involved with study design, conduct, statistical analysis, and reporting at GWU and Children’s National Hospital are coordinating to provide priority response to COVID-19 studies. Investigators that wish to collaborate, need assistance with planning their COVID-19 studies, or who have statistical analysis needs should contact one of the individuals or groups listed below. For each request, we will review which of our groups has the best fit to the project in terms of resources, skills, and experience. If our existing faculty and staff cannot handle a project, we will try to identify other faculty, staff, and students who may be available, including individuals outside of GW and Children’s National.

Q and A.
  • There seems to be overlap among the listed groups in services offered.  How do I know which one to contact?  There is overlap.  For example, the BERD module is jointly staffed by the DBM and BECS. If you are not sure which group to contact, simply contact any of them and the Team will refer you to the group that can best help you.
  • How much does this cost?  Generally, there is no charge for assistance with a grant application that will be including faculty or staff from one of the groups in the proposed budget.  There may be charges for data analysis, data management, and other services.
  • Aren’t there other study design and analysis services?  There are many additional services available to both GW and Children’s National researchers through the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Children’s National (CTSI-CN).  These include, for example, help with regulatory matters, community engagement, team science, informatics, and “omics” analysis.  See ctsicn.org for more information.
  • Do you provide similar COVID-19 support to investigators who are not connected to GW or Children’s National?  Yes, but all else being equal, GW and Children’s National investigators will have priority.
  • I am a faculty member who also has quantitative skills that may benefit COVID-19 investigators.  Can I be part of this Team?  Yes! Please contact Sam Simmens ([email protected]).
