"EPSDT- a MEDICAID program of health screening and necessary diagnostic and treatment services for all CHILDREN under age twentyone who are eligible for MEDICAID." Montana Contract, page 27.
"HMO/EPSDT POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
Background...
The concept that child health services
should be continuing and comprehensive is basic. A child should be able
to receive examination, treatment and when necessary, referral services from
one PROVIDER. EPSDT services ideally should be part of a continuum of
care so that the child's screening services are delivered by someone familiar
with the child's episodes of acute illness and who has an ongoing relations
with the family as the regular source of the child's health care. Continuing
care PROVIDERS can make a variety of services available and continuously monitor
and advise on a child's development.
Screening, Diagnosis, and Treatment...
Screening is not an end in itself,
but the first step in the detection process which includes diagnosis.
Similarly, the detection process, without treatment for conditions found,
does not improve health and is not an end in itself. Each step in EPSDT
process is essential for EPSDT program that contributes for children's health."
