Departmental Resources for Students

As a GW student, you have many resources at your disposal through your department, the school, and the university as a whole. Below is information particularly relevant to currently matriculated Prevention and Community Health Department MPH students.

Review the degree requirements for PCH MPH and PhD students – or review these in the GW BulletinAdditionally, review the Interprofessional education (IPE) catalog for future events and additional information on IPE requirements. 

The PCH Orientation Presentation for New Students and the Fall 2021 PCH Orientation present common administrative issues pertaining to curricular matters, academic concerns, graduation requirements, and more. The MPH Academic Advising Guide will serve as a general reference for the academic advising procedures in place. 

Administrative Forms

Graduate Records Petition - To be completed and signed by student, emailed to the academic advisor or course instructor (as appropriate) for approval, then forwarded- along with any required attachments- to GWSPH Student Records ( for Dean's-level processing. You should not submit the form directly to any dean.

Registration Transaction Form (RTF) - To be carefully filled out and signed by the student, then sent to the course instructor or director for their signature approval. Once signed, either the student or instructor can submit to Student Records ( for processing. They will confirm receipt and you can expect to be registered and receive an updated Student Accounts bill within 10 business days.

Culminating Experience

The Culminating Experience (CE) is a planned experience that requires a student to synthesize and integrate knowledge acquired in coursework and to apply theory and principles in an experience that approximates some aspect of professional practice.

The Prevention and Community Health Curriculum Committee has set the dates for deliverables due to CE advisers for students pursuing the PCH Culminating Experience in 2021-2022 academic year. In consultation with the CE adviser, current students should review these dates in planning their CE projects.

Student Awards 

The GW Annual Research Day held each spring, is an opportunity for students to share results of their research. 

The department has several awards which recognize the work of current students in the department. In the past, these have included:
