Mission

Please note: This program is no longer accepting new students.

This graduate certificate provides students with HIV/AIDS knowledge to enable them to work effectively in HIV/AIDS public health organizations, community-based organizations, AIDS service organizations, and HIV/AIDS research.

Program Requirements

  1. Stand Alone. Eighteen graduate credits are required. Students in the stand-alone certificate must take at least 12 of the program-specific credits.
  1. The program director/advisor must pre-approve all course selections and sequencing by developing a “program of study” with the student prior to initial registration.  Graduate Certificate students must meet with their advisor each semester before registration, and all changes to the program of study must be approved.
  1. Add-On. Graduate Credit Requirement for students enrolled concurrently in a SPHHS Degree Program: 12 credits are required. Students enrolled in a MPH program at GWU must take at least nine of the program-specific credits. (For students in the MPH program as well as the certificate, 12 certificate credits are in addition to the required 45 MPH credits; a total of 57 credits will be taken to award both the MPH and the certificate.)
  1. Transfer Credit. The program director/advisor may approve up to four graduate credits that have not been applied to a previous graduate degree as transfer credit into the graduate certificate program.  Course(s) must be relevant to the graduate certificate; credit must have been earned from an accredited institution within the past three years with a grade of B or better.
  1. Grade Point Requirement.  A 3.0 (B average) overall grade point average or better is required.
  1. Time Limit Requirement. The certificate must be completed within 2 years.
