Environmental and Occupational Health Posters at GW Event Highlight Breadth and Depth of Student Research

April 7, 2017

A record number of EOH students and staff presented at GW’s 2017 Health and Medicine Research Day.  Altogether, the work of 34 students, staff and faculty members were represented in 25 posters displayed at the event, which is dedicated to highlighting the breadth of research on issues of major disciplinary, multidisciplinary, and global significance being done at the George Washington University.

“I was impressed by how many students presented posters this year.  We had an outstanding level of participation and the students I visited did an excellent job of describing their research,” says Professor and Interim Chair George Gray, who also commends staff members for presenting their work.

The posters presented by Environmental and Occupational Health students, faculty and staff showcase the wide range of the work done in our field, says Professor and Interim Associate Dean for Research Melissa Perry.  The posters describe work related to air and water pollution, climate change, the impacts of exposure to contaminants including nanoparticles and endocrine disrupters, antibiotic resistant microbes, occupational exposures, and the positive effects of being in nature in both the developed and developing worlds.

The students and staff who presented and their topics include:

  • El’gin Avila (Environmental Health Science & Policy (EHS&P)  MPH Student):  “Systematic Review of Associations Between Particulate Matter (PM2.5 PM10) and Cancer Risk”
