Join us in honoring Disability Pride Month, a month to honor the disability community's history, achievements, experiences, and struggles. It originated in the United States in 1990 to commemorate the passing of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which broke down barriers to inclusion in society. The first Disability Pride Day was held in Boston that same year, and the first official celebration of Disability Pride Month was in July 2015, which marked the 25th anniversary of the ADA, a historic document that paved the way for accessibility requirements across the United States.
July is also French-American Heritage month, and we celebrate and recognize the contributions made to the country by people of French descent. Approximately 11.8 million Americans of French or French Canadian descent live and work in the United States, with about 2 million of those speaking French at home. As of the 2011 census, an additional 750,000 French-American citizens were added to those numbers due to the large Creole community.
