Amir is a retired Colonel with full honors from the United States Air Force Medical Service Corp and a disabled Veteran of the United States. Most recently, Amir served UCSD as Chief Executive Officer for El Centro Regional Medical Center (ECRMC), an affiliate of the University of California San Diego Health Care Network. He retired from his UCSD role and from the state of California. Currently, he serves as a dual-hatted consultant to Global MedService Partners, as Senior Vice President of Clinical Operations, and as President and Chief Executive Officer of San Antonio Medical Enterprise.
Dr. Edward previously served as Market CEO for Kindred in Denver/Aurora, and has also held senior leadership roles at hospitals across the U.S. and abroad, focusing on attracting new patients and increasing specialty services. Before that, Dr. Edward held many executive leadership positions in health care for the U.S. Air Force for over 22 years, including Chief of Medical Operations for Pacific Forces, Chief of Staff at Bethesda Military Medical Center Joint Forces, and command of a Medical Hospital in Portugal, as well as other senior advisor roles. Dr Edward was the Acting Health Attaché to the US Ambassador in Iraq and Senior Advisor to the Surgeon General of Iraq.
He holds a Doctorate in Healthcare Administration and Leadership from the Medical University of South Carolina, a master’s of strategy and international relations from Air University WAR College (U.S. Air Force), an MSHA in healthcare administration from Trinity University, an MBA from Florida, and an MS from Villanova in Healthcare Project Management as well as a BS in biological studies from Wichita State University. He is a Fellow of the American College of HealthCare Executives, a diplomate of the American Academy of Medical Administrators (AAMA), and is a Certified HealthCare Insurance Executive.
He served on many boards, including the Hospital Quality Institute, the Hospital Association/Society of San Diego and Imperial County, the Imperial County Local Health Authority as a health commissioner and Chairman, and others. Dr Edward brings to our organization 30 years of healthcare experience across strategy, operations, and synergies, gained through work with public/private healthcare systems nationally and internationally.
