Charting our Course to 2030

As the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health approaches its 30th anniversary, we are shaping our vision and priorities for 2030 and beyond. The decisions we make together will influence not only our long-term future, but also the important choices we face today. Hearing from across our community, faculty, staff, students, and alumni, is essential to building a thoughtful and ambitious path forward.

We are asking for your partnership as we chart GWSPH’s course for the next three years. This process is about far more than producing a strategic plan document. It is about defining the future we want to build together, identifying where we aspire to lead, and creating the roadmap to get there.

Public Health in a New Era

From artificial intelligence and data science to evolving communication technologies, policy environments, and workforce needs, the public health landscape is changing rapidly. These developments will shape our work, just as our work will shape them.

Our students, faculty, and staff must not only understand these transformations but also help lead them.

At the same time, we must listen carefully to employers, alumni, community partners, and other stakeholders to better understand the knowledge, skills, and experiences our graduates will need, both today and in the years ahead.

A Commitment to Listening and Inclusion

Our highest priority in this process is meaningful engagement. Every voice matters, every comment will be reviewed thoughtfully, and every perspective has value.

We are seeking candid, constructive dialogue as we reflect together on questions such as:

  • What are we doing especially well, and how do we build upon those strengths?
  • What must evolve to ensure our continued impact and relevance?
  • Where do we have the greatest opportunity to lead?

Early in the process, we will launch small-group listening sessions with faculty and staff. We will also gather input from students, alumni, community partners, employers, and donors. Hearing from all of our stakeholders is essential to building a strategy that is both ambitious and grounded in our shared experience.

We will offer multiple opportunities and formats for participation so that everyone can engage in ways that are meaningful and accessible.

Timeline and Communication

We have intentionally designed this process to allow for thoughtful engagement and careful synthesis:

Summer 2026
Listening, discussion, and synthesis. We will conduct small-group sessions with faculty and staff alongside targeted outreach to students, alumni, community partners, employers, and donors.

Fall 2026
Drafting and refinement. We will share emerging themes and priorities for school-wide feedback while also beginning implementation planning.

January 2027
Launch of GWSPH’s new strategic plan.

How to Engage

Your input is essential to this process. At any point, you are welcome to share ideas, suggestions, concerns, or hard truths through this anonymous survey. Responses may be submitted anonymously unless you choose otherwise. The survey will be open through July 31, 2026.

The decisions we make together over the coming months will shape our vision for 2030 and influence the choices we begin making today. I encourage you to speak openly and honestly. Your perspective is critical to ensuring we get this right.
