WASHINGTON (Jan. 11, 2023) — Today the Supreme Court said it will allow New York to enforce restrictions on carrying concealed weapons while legal challenges to the case continue. The New York law would ban guns from sensitive places including schools and playgrounds.
An op-ed published this week by experts at the George Washington University argues that the gun industry lobbies against such restrictions while at the same time deploying aggressive marketing tactics to boost sales. Adnan Hyder, a professor of global health at the GW Milken Institute School of Public Health, and his colleagues say the gun industry has gone scot free in the debate over accountability for gun violence. They say society must hold the firearm industry accountable for its role in this rising public health issue.
“The Double Standard in Mass Shootings: Perpetrators vs. Gun Industry,” was published Jan. 8, 2023, in LA Progressive.
