With a deep commitment to advancing health equity and improving outcomes for communities everywhere, the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University harnesses the power of science, policy, and education to strengthen health systems and promote well-being across the globe. As Dean, Kelly Gebo, a nationally recognized physician-scientist, educator, and public health leader, is guiding the school into its next era of innovation and impact from the heart of the nation’s capital.
Dr. Gebo began her tenure as Dean in October 2025, bringing to GW more than two decades of leadership experience from Johns Hopkins University, where she served in the School of Medicine, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, and the Office of the Provost. Her career reflects a deep belief in collaboration, mentorship, and translating evidence into practice to achieve equitable health outcomes.
An infectious disease physician and epidemiologist, Dr. Gebo’s research has focused on disparities in access to care and outcomes among people affected by HIV, COVID-19, and other infectious diseases. She co-led the national HIV Research Network, a consortium of clinical sites tracking outcomes for more than 20,000 patients, and has authored more than 250 peer-reviewed publications that have informed national guidelines for infectious diseases.
At Johns Hopkins, she served as Deputy Director of the Institute for Clinical and Translational Research and directed the KL-2 Clinical Research Scholars Program, mentoring early-career investigators. As the university’s first Vice Provost for Education, she oversaw academic programs across disciplines, championing educational innovation and interdisciplinary learning. From 2018 to 2020, she served as Chief Medical and Scientific Officer for the National Institutes of Health’s All of Us Research Program, helping to design one of the largest and most inclusive biomedical research initiatives in the country.
Dr. Gebo is a Fellow of the American College of Physicians, the Infectious Diseases Society of America, and the HIV Medical Association. She also is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation. Her dedication to mentorship has been recognized with the David M. Levine Award for Excellence in Mentoring at Johns Hopkins.
Under her leadership, the Milken Institute School of Public Health continues to expand its global reach and research excellence, deepening partnerships across disciplines and sectors to address the most pressing public health challenges of our time.
