GW Public Health Living-Learning Community
About the GW Public Health LLC
The GW Public Health Living Learning Community (LLC) provides first-year students the opportunity to join an immersive, intellectual living environment where they will explore topics surrounding public health and the impact it has on our community. Students will engage with curriculum in and out of the classroom through coursework, formal and informal dialogues, and opportunities in the residence hall and the greater DC community.
All GW students are welcome in the GW Public Health LLC. In particular, incoming first-year students in Exercise Science, Health Data Science, Nutrition and Public Health at the Milken Institute School of Public Health are encouraged to apply.
LLC students will be cohorted into one section of PUBH 1101 Introduction to Public Health and Health Services (3 credits). First semester students rarely have the opportunity to take Introduction to Public Health, so this is a great opportunity to move your degree forward! This course will introduce first-year students to aspects of public health and health services including goals and strategies of public health, evidence-based public health, public health data and communications, social and behavioral sciences, and health policy. It will review public health approaches to noncommunicable and communicable diseases as well as environmental health and safety. Throughout the course, students will discuss public health and health care careers, institutions, and systems and principles and applications of systems thinking.
