Welcome to the Reimagining Public Health Protection Authority initiative, a project dedicated to strengthening the institutional foundations of public health. Why this matters?
Public health protection is a cornerstone of societal well-being, yet many public health institutions lack the authority and resources needed to enforce regulations, respond to health crises, and safeguard communities. Weak regulatory frameworks leave populations vulnerable to emerging health threats, environmental hazards, and preventable diseases.

Expert Meeting on Public Health Protection Authority
April 22, 2025 - Milken Institute School of Public Health
This expert meeting convened public health leaders and scholars for a discussion-based exchange on the role of public health protection authority as a structural driver of equity and development. A comparative analysis was shared to provide background and prompt reflection on how core functions can be reimagined for greater impact. Participants also contributed strategic insights on how to build institutional support for this area of work, including ideas for talent development and long-term sustainability.
