Alan Greenberg Recognized with National Award from the American College of Physicians

Alan Greenberg, MD, professor and chair of the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH) at the George Washington University, has been awarded the Alvan R. Feinstein Award for Patient Care in the Field of Clinical Epidemiology by the American College of Physicians (ACP), the national organization of internists. The award will be presented at ACP’s Internal Medicine Meeting 2015 during the Convocation ceremony Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center, in Boston, MA.

The Alvan R. Feinstein Award is given to an American physician who has made a major contribution to the science of patient care in activities that Dr. Feinstein, recognized as the father of clinical epidemiology, broadly defined as clinical epidemiology.

Greenberg has published extensively in the area of HIV epidemiology in the United States and in Africa, and has held roles in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention. As the director of the District of Columbia Developmental Center for AIDS Research (DC D-CFAR), Greenberg and his colleagues have contributed to defining the epidemiology of HIV and to building HIV prevention research capacity in the District of Columbia.

Greenberg is a graduate of Amherst College (BA), George Washington University (MD), and Harvard School of Public Health (MPH). In addition to his role at Milken Institute SPH, Greenberg is also a professor of medicine at GW’s School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
