Dr. Quinlan has close to 5 years of experience teaching a range of graduate courses in epidemiology and biostatistics, both in the on-campus and online environment. He received his BS in biochemistry from the University of Delaware and his MS and PhD in Epidemiology from The George Washington University. His dissertation research involved an examination of the role of infections in cancer development, specifically looking at the most common cancers in solid organ transplant recipients. Dr. Quinlan has taught courses in introductory epidemiology and biostatistics, advanced data analysis methods for public health, and the epidemiology of drug and vaccine safety.
Prior to returning to The George Washington University in 2016, Dr. Quinlan spent more than 6 years serving as a consultant and project manager for a consulting company that worked with pharmaceutical and biotech clients to design and implement studies to assess the safety of new drugs and vaccines. Prior to this he worked for more than 6 years as part of a large clinical trial network in type 1 diabetes, serving in various roles at The George Washington University Biostatistics Center.
Dr. Quinlan's interest in epidemiology began with an internship in Perth, Scotland following his undergraduate education in which he investigated the natural history and burden of various diseases as part of a small consulting company who worked with university researchers to bring new ideas to market.
Dr. Quinlan has two children, Alice and Bryce, and lives in Alexandria. In his free time he enjoys spending time with family, craft beer, running, sports (go Mets!!), and reading.
