Cora MacPherson is an Assistant Research Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She has spent over 30 years collaborating with government agencies, physicians, and pharmaceutical companies on designing, conducting, and analyzing medical research studies. She has experience with a wide range of subject areas, including cancer, diabetes, urology, and mood disorders. She began working in the field of child health in 1992, when she spent over a decade as a statistician for the NICHD Maternal Fetal Medicine Units (MFMU) Network at the George Washington University Biostatistics Center. She returned to University after a 14-year hiatus and has resumed her work with the MFMU Network. She is also Principal Investigator for the SNP-based Microdeletion and Aneuploidy Registry (SMART).

Prior to returning to GW, Dr. MacPherson supported a wide variety of medical research projects while Director of the Center for Data Analysis and Management at Social & Scientific Systems.  In that capacity, she provided strategic oversight and technical leadership for a portfolio of projects which consisted of efforts in statistical and biomathematical work, along with data mining and curation. Dr. MacPherson has served as a member of the Data and Safety Monitoring Boards (DSMB) for three National Institutes of Health (NIH)-funded clinical trial and several industry-sponsored DSMBs, and serves as a peer reviewer for the Department of Defense Congressionally Directed Medical Research Program.
