I conceptualized, planned, and conducted the analyses including the single parameter sensitivity analysis, which was the basis of our argument. I contributed to writing all sections of the paper in response to a prior publication indicating that the low prevalence of self-reported smoking among black youth was a measurement artifact. Our analyses indicated that self-reported cigarette smoking among black and Hispanic adolescents was as valid as self-reported smoking by white adolescents and therefore the observed prevalence of smoking was valid, and the observed difference were real. This paper has 253 citations.

Although the primary thesis of the article was developed by TA Wills, I introduced the method of using latent growth analysis to more appropriately addressed the question.
