Juan Klopper

Jay (Juan) Klopper MD MMed(Surg)Cum Laude is a teaching associate professor in the Department of Biostatistics and Bioinformatics. He is a qualified surgeon and previous Head of the Acute Care Surgery Unit at Groote Schuur Hospital, University of Cape Town.  Jay has a special interest in the development of large-scale educational resources and is a recipient of the Educator of The Year award from the Open Education Consortium of leading universities. He is a proponent of contemporary online education with three courses on the massive open online course platform, Coursera, and has more than 1400 lecturers on statistics, mathematics, machine learning, and medicine on YouTube. He has taught graduate courses in data science, biostatistics, and machine learning. Jay has published research papers on healthcare systems, teaching and training, and clinical surgery, is the author of the textbook Introduction to Statistics, and is an editor of the Journal for Open-Source Education.
