Dr. Carolyn Reyes earned a Ph.D. and a Master in Public Health from George Washington University Milken Institute of Public Health and a Bachelor of Arts from Santa Clara University in California. She currently works as an Epidemiologist and Program Director at the NIH National Cancer Institute (NCI), where she supports a portfolio of NCI grants related to tobacco use and cancer control. She also conducts independent research on the epidemiology of light and nondaily cigarette smoking, along with co-use of other tobacco products and substances like alcohol. In addition to tobacco control research, Dr. Reyes has collaborated on studies of other health behaviors such as sleep/circadian rhythm disruptions, co-occurring alcohol and mental health disorders, biomarkers of tobacco exposure, overweight/obesity, and observational studies of lung cancer and lung cancer screening. She began her work at NCI as a fellow/trainee, through a Cancer Research Training Award to conduct her doctoral dissertation research while at GWU. Prior to joining NCI, Dr. Reyes was an Epidemiologist at the FDA Center for Tobacco Products where she conducted research, review, and evaluation in support of the regulation of tobacco products and was actively involved in the Population Assessment of Tobacco and Health (PATH) Study. Dr. Reyes also previously worked as a US Government contractor in support of military health and readiness, and in global health.
