All Month: Native American Heritage Month-It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities and ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation. We celebrate Indian Country with its remarkable diversity of American Indian and Alaska Native cultures and peoples while remembering and honoring our veterans who have sacrificed so much to defend our Nation.
November 5: Election Day- Election Day is observed on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November, has been a cornerstone of American democracy since 1845. This date was chosen to accommodate the agrarian society of the 19th century, giving rural voters time to travel to polling locations without interfering with weekend religious observances or market days. Over the years, Election Day has become a symbol of civic duty and a reminder of the power each individual holds to shape government policies and leadership.
November 8: National First Generation Day- National First-Generation Day was established in honor of signing the Higher Education Act of 1965 that expanded college opportunities for low-income and first-generation populations. Championed by the Council for Opportunity in Education (COE) and the NASPA Center for First-Generation Student Success, the day brings awareness to the strengths as well as promotes visibility of first-generation college students, faculty and staff on campuses across the country.
November 20: Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR)- Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is a solemn day honoring the transgender individuals whose lives were lost to acts of anti-transgender violence. This day calls attention to the ongoing epidemic of violence and discrimination faced by transgender and gender-diverse people worldwide, while emphasizing the urgent need for societal change. On TDOR, we remember those lost, stand in solidarity with the trans community, and reaffirm our commitment to combatting transphobia, promoting safety, and fostering a world where everyone can live freely and without fear.
