- GWSPH Biostatistics and Epidemiology Consulting Service
The Biostatistics and Epidemiology Consulting Service (BECS) provides biostatistical and epidemiologic support to improve the quality of health-related research conducted at the George Washington University and by affiliated research groups. We provide support through consultations, extended collaborative relationships, communication about best practices, and broad-based services in research design, statistical analysis, data management, and dissemination of findings.

- GWSPH Office of Research Excellence
The Office of Research Excellence (ORE) serves the GWSPH and its departments by offering strategic research expertise and support for various research-related functions while catalyzing research productivity. Research Reopening Guidelines for GWSPH
The Research Reopening Guidelines for GWSPH is a document compiled by the ORE with the help of numerous faculty contributors. The guide contains protocols for restarting research projects with specific focus on our school. The contents are designed to help principal investigators come up with individualized plans for their own research. It should provide a valuable resource as the university progresses through the various phases of reopening.
This document is currently a draft version, and we are open to suggestions and feedback. Please contact [email protected].

Approvals for Research Initiation/Restart
In accordance with the Office of Human Research (OHR) guidance released 26 June 2020, all schools are now responsible for reviewing new research and restart/reopen requests for existing projects and laboratories. GWSPH has a protocol in place that includes a detailed breakdown of nine elements that must be included in a restart plan (if applicable) and includes a fillable template. One request must be completed for every research project or laboratory.
As our understanding of COVID-19 and the university's efforts to reopen continue to evolve, this approval process may also change. Please check back periodically for updates and email any feedback to [email protected].

Protocol Builder assists investigators with developing quality and consistent research protocols that make internal and IRB review processes more efficient. GW's institutional license provides free access to the GW research community. GW recommends investigators consider using Protocol Builder for projects that involve greater than minimal risk.

The electronic protocol writing tool aims to facilitate the development of two types of clinical trials involving human participants - Phase II and III clinical trial protocols that require a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Investigational New Drug (IND) or Investigational Device Exemption (IDE) application.

The NIH has webinar archives with information on the NIH Grants Process, including application tips and information on submission policies.
- NIH Informed Consent for Research Using Digital Health Technologies
This resource presents general points to consider, instructions for use, and optional sample language for the research community. It will best be used to inform research teams and Institutional Review Board (IRB) members who are planning, reviewing, or conducting research that studies or uses digital health technologies.

NIH’s Institutional Review Board has helpful information about the IRB Review Process, as well as guidance documents.
- ResearchMatch
Research Match is a national recruitment registry that brings together volunteers who wish to be involved in research, with researchers who are looking for volunteers. All GW researchers have access to this tool as part of the university's partnership with the Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Children's National (CTSI-CN).
Please note that the use of ResearchMatch, and any text that will be posted on ResearchMatch, must be approved by the Institutional Review Board (IRB). Researchers may describe their planned use of ResearchMatch in their IRB application. Or, if a study has already been approved, researchers must submit a protocol modification to begin using the tool for recruitment.
