Alyssa is a bioengineer with research interests related to technology and innovation for global health applications. She received her PhD from Rice University where her dissertation focused on novel, low-cost methods to measure bilirubin and pH of newborn blood samples at the point-of-care in low-resource settings. As a member of the Smith Lab, Alyssa is supporting research efforts evaluating serum, transcutaneous, and noninvasive bilirubin measurement techniques for newborn jaundice screening in international cohort studies.
