Dr. Wang, who started in PCH on September 15, 2020, previously served as an Associate Professor in the Department of Pediatrics and the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine as well as Chief of the Statistical Unit in the School of Medicine’s Division of Growth and Nutrition. For more than 15 years, Dr. Wang has evaluated the impact of individual, familial, social, and environmental factors as well as health disparities on a variety of health outcomes including tobacco and other substance use, diet, physical inactivity, obesity, sexual risk behaviors, and unintentional injuries. She is an expert on community-based health research and the application of advanced statistical methodology to conduct psychosocial research including randomized trial design and quasi-experimental design. Through this work she has employed a variety of approaches including structural equation modeling, multi-level modeling, survival analyses, propensity score matching, dyadic and network models, and other advanced models. PCH Chair Deanna Kerrigan observes that the addition of Dr. Wang to PCH further strengthens the department’s capacity to employ innovative and rigorous methodologies in the socio-behavioral research conducted by its students, staff and faculty.
