PCH Professor Lorien Abroms and PCH graduate students Jessie Armstrong, Megan Hatheway and Meredith Hernlund launch the GW Health Communication Volunteer Corps

July 28, 2021

The GW Health Communication Volunteer Corps (HCVC) was formed in the Spring of 2021 as PCH faculty and students became increasingly aware of the presence of misinformation on social media platforms, specifically health related misinformation. Knowing how influential social media can be in shaping an individual’s opinions, HCVC founders reasoned that increasing the prominence of evidence based messaging on these various platforms could act as a counter force to prevalent misinformation. Building on the depth of knowledge, passion and expertise within Milken, the HCVC now has over 100 members and has formed the Brigada Digital de Salud to reach Spanish speaking communities.
