HPM Graduate Programs
The Department of Health Policy and Management offers a number of graduate degrees that allow students to specialize in key aspects of this broad and dynamic field. The degrees we offer are:
- Master of Public Health (MPH) in Health Policy
- Master of Health Administration (MHA)
- Master of Health Administration (MHA@GW) - Online
- Doctorate of Health Policy (PhD)
MPH
The MPH in health policy provides education in the substance of health policy and the methods of health policy analysis, with a strong focus on communication and leadership. Our strategic location in Washington, DC provides unique opportunities for course assignments, experiential learning, and connections to experienced policy advisors, analysts and leaders.
MHA
The Master of Health Administration incorporates business and medical informatics training, knowledge of health care systems, management theory, ethics, law, and policy, and critical values in decision making. The curriculum’s special strengths include an emphasis on experiential learning and community service, distinguished faculty, research collaborations and relationships with policymaking and health care organizations in Washington, DC.

MHA@GW - Health Administration (online program)
The MHA (MHA@GW) degree is designed for adult learners who possess either clinical or administrative experience in healthcare delivery. The MHA@GW curriculum focuses on developing the skills and values needed for persons who seek to create highly effective healthcare organizations. The culminating activities for MHA@GW students include a field-based research project and a portfolio that demonstrates the achievement of program competencies.
DrPH
This is an interdisciplinary DrPH Program focusing on leadership and practice in public health environments.
PhD
The PhD in Health Policy is designed to develop scholars who are skilled at critically assessing the political, economic, legal and social aspects of health policy and management and learning to apply innovative research tools to analyze processes and outcomes in the health care delivery and public health settings to inform policy decision-making.
