PCH Professor Mark Edberg receives R01 award from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities to identify key elements of indigenous historical trauma (IHT) and develop an instrument to measure IHT

Mark Edberg has received a R01 award from the National Institute on Minority Health and Health Disparities to engage in a systematic, collaborative qualitative-to-quantitative research effort to identify key elements of indigenous historical trauma (IHT) and its cross-generational transmission; develop a scale or instrument from those key elements to measure IHT; and then conduct a survey with tribal members to assess relationships between IHT and a range of health risks and disparities. The research is a collaboration with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians (EBCI), Western Carolina University, and several expert consultant partners.
