EOH: Microbiology & the Microbiome

Research

EOH researchers specialize in advanced microbiological methods to study the dynamic interactions between human, agent, and environment. For example, the use of culture-independent analysis of the human microbiomes have been used to investigate how specific anaerobic bacteria within the human male urogenital microbiome can increase host susceptibility to HIV infection [Liu]. Similar methods have also been used to identify nasal commensal bacteria that may protect against colonization by Staphylococcus aureus, a major opportunistic pathogen [Liu, Price].
