Milken Institute School of Public Health Names Glenn Paulson as Interim Senior Associate Dean

Glenn Paulson, PhD, was appointed a interim Senior Associate Dean  at Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH) at the George Washington University starting July 1, 2015. Dr. Paulson comes to Milken Institute SPH for his one-year appointment after serving as science advisor to the Administrator at the US EPA. Dr. Paulson will also hold a one-year appointment as professor of environmental and occupational health. In fall 2015 Milken Institute SPH will form a search committee and commence a national search for Senior Associate Dean which should culminate by spring 2016.

Dr. Paulson most recently served as the science advisor for the EPA , where he advised the administrator and deputy administrator of the agency on major environmental assessment reports and other significant scientific documents and issues including exploration of unconventional energy resources for the nation. He also managed a program with an annual operating budget of about $5 million.

Prior to joining the EPA, Dr. Paulson was a professor of occupational and environmental health at the Rutgers School of Public Health, formerly known as the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-School of Public Health. While there, Dr. Paulson designed and implemented a certificate program in public health preparedness and served as the school’s first associate dean for research.

Dr. Paulson also has worked as a principal in an environmental consulting firm called Paulson and Cooper, Inc. and has served as the assistant commissioner for science at the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection in Trenton, New Jersey. Prior to that he was  an administrator for the scientific support program and a staff scientist at the Natural Resources Defense Council in New York.  

Glenn Paulson is an elected fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the American Institute of Chemists  He earned a PhD in environmental sciences and ecology from The Rockefeller University and a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Northwestern University.  Please join me in welcoming Dr. Paulson as our interim Senior Associate Dean.
