Washington, D.C. (May 22, 2015) – Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH) at the George Washington University welcomed graduates of its online Master of Public Health program, MPH@GW, at the 2015 commencement ceremonies held Saturday, May 16 on GW’s Washington, D.C. campus. Through cutting edge technology and a cloud-based software-as-a-service platform provided by 2U, Inc., MPH@GW allows the Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University to go global, providing a top-tier educational experience for students working in public health settings around the world.
Over 40 students representing 17 U.S. states and Canada received their Master of Public Health from the renowned Milken Institute SPH last weekend. The diverse group works across a variety of industries in public health including research, administration, policy, public health communications and medical care for both rural and urban communities. Students meet weekly in live online courses featuring faculty-led lessons in addition to learning self-paced course content.
Dean Lynn R. Goldman especially recognized the graduating online students in her remarks Saturday at Lisner Auditorium. “Milken Institute continues to innovate and broaden our research and curriculum to meet the needs of students the world over who wish to study public health and make a difference in the world,” said Dean Goldman. “I am especially proud of our first online graduates who have been with us from the beginning and serve as models for the program!”
MPH@GW students represent diverse educational and professional backgrounds. With students’ ages ranging from 20 to 77, nearly half already hold an advanced degree prior to pursuing MPH@GW, with more than five years of work experience across a range of public health industries. Nearly 600 students are currently enrolled, representing 44 states and nine countries.
Upon successful completion of the program, graduates have developed the skills necessary to fulfill the Milken Institute SPH mission of advancing the health of populations across the globe. Milken Institute SPH also offers an online Master of Health Administration, MHA@GW, in partnership with 2U, Inc. Launched in 2013 in response to the growing need for skilled health care executives to manage health-related organizations and programs, the program will announce its first group of graduates in 2016.
