A new exhibit, titled "I Heart My Story: GWSPH Diversity," is currently offering the GWSPH community a chance to reflect on the compelling and unique stories of its members who represent diverse cultures, backgrounds, and experiences.

This exhibit celebrates both the strengths and challenges of a multicultural community, providing support and encouraging storytelling to find beauty and a sense of belonging within GWSPH.

Led by the Office of Inclusive Excellence, the project involves the participation of students, faculty, staff members, and alumni from across the GWSPH community. Black-and-white portraits and concise, first-person narratives representing the participants can be seen in the lobby of 950 New Hampshire, on the GWSPH website DEI page and on various social media platforms for GWSPH.

Inspired by the popular "Humans of New York" project, Wanda Nicholson, Professor and Senior Associate Dean, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, proposed a similar initiative in portraiture and storytelling, capturing the beauty and power of our school. The project is live now and will be on display beginning with Black History Month in February 2024.

Expressing her enthusiasm for the project, Wanda Nicholson emphasized the importance of sharing the diversity, backgrounds and challenges faced by students, staff, and faculty – highlighting their resilience. "When we acknowledge and celebrate the rich diversity within our school, we recognize that each individual brings unique perspectives and experiences to the field of public health. Embracing this diversity is not only a reflection of our commitment to equity and inclusion but is also critical for the success of those working in public health. It enhances our ability to address complex health challenges and fosters a more inclusive environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to the betterment of public health outcomes,” said Nicholson.

In addition to their photos, participants are encouraged to share basic background information and discuss their GWSPH communities and experiences, including challenges and opportunities. All members of our community are welcome to participate here.
