Inclusive Teaching Series - Summer Reading Group & Author Seminar

The GWSPH Office of Academic Affairs, the GWSPH Office of Inclusive Excellence, and the GWSPH Master Teacher Academy invite you to join us for a series of two special events this summer and fall focused on inclusive teaching. Please find below descriptions and registration information of two events: 1) a reading group taking place throughout the summer; and 2) a virtual workshop with the book’s authors taking place in fall. We think these offerings will be of unique value to our school’s faculty and we hope that you will join us for one or both activities.

 Event #1 - Summer Reading Group:

Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Promoting Equity in the College Classroom by Drs. Kelly A. Hogan & Viji Sathy

Meeting Dates: Participants should plan to join for at least 2 of these 3 sessions.

  • Friday, June 21st @ 9:00 a.m. ET via Zoom
  • Friday, July 19th @ 12:00 p.m. ET via Zoom
  • Friday, August 16th @ 12:00 p.m. ET via Zoom

Description: Interested faculty are invited to join us for a Summer Reading Group, where we will meet to discuss this book focused on inclusive teaching, and to prepare for the seminar in September. Registrants for the reading group should:

  • Commit to attend at least 2 of the 3 sixty-minute reading group discussions this summer (see dates, above);
  • Plan to attend the seminar on Friday, September 20th. In addition to the open seminar from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., Summer Reading Group participants will be invited to a smaller discussion with the book authors from 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. ET to receive technical assistance and feedback on their inclusive teaching practices;
  • Pick up your complimentary copy of the book by Friday, May 24th from 228D in the GWSPH building (first 15 registrants only; others may purchase the book via Amazon).

Event #2 - Virtual Seminar (SAVE THE DATE):

Inclusive Classroom Principles with Drs. Kelly A. Hogan & Viji Sathy

Date: Friday, September 20th from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. ET via Zoom; please save the date - a formal announcement/RSVP for this event is forthcoming.

Cap: 50 participants

Description: This fall, we are thrilled to host authors Drs. Kelly A. Hogan and Viji Sathy, as they join us for a virtual seminar to discuss the principles and practices shared in their book, “Inclusive Teaching: Strategies for Promoting Equity in the College Classroom.” Written by and for college educators, this book provides tips and advice on how to intentionally and thoughtfully use course design, structure, and classroom interactions to make all students feel welcome, included, and engaged.
