(April 18, 2025) — The George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health is proud to announce that distinguished alumna Barbara Walczyk-Joers, M.H.A. ‘96, will serve as the keynote speaker for the 2025 Graduation Celebration.
A graduate of GWSPH’s Master’s in Health Services Management and Policy program, Ms. Joers currently serves as President and CEO of Gillette Children’s, a national leader in pediatric specialty care. Since taking the helm in 2013, she has guided the organization in providing cutting-edge care to children with complex, rare, or traumatic conditions that affect musculoskeletal and neurologic performance.
“We are incredibly proud to welcome Barbara back to GWSPH,” said Lynn R. Goldman, Dean of the Milken Institute School of Public Health. “Her career stands as a model of leadership, and innovation in managing health care systems, but what we are most excited to celebrate—and what our students will find most inspiring—is her unwavering passion for the health of all children and assuring that all children have an opportunity to receive the care they deserve, even those with rare diseases. Barbara’s drive for excellence in child health care is at the heart of public health, and we can’t wait to hear her message to the Class of 2025.”
With more than 25 years of experience across academic medical centers, community health systems, and independent children’s hospitals, Ms. Joers is widely recognized as a transformative voice in healthcare. Her work focuses on strategic performance, organizational change management, and health policy and advocacy. She is known for her ability to navigate the complexities of a shifting healthcare landscape while maintaining a deep commitment to the well-being of individuals and families.
Beyond her role at Gillette, Ms. Joers serves on the Board of Directors of the Medical Alley Association and is active in organizations including Health Evolution, the International Hospital Federation, and the Minnesota Rare Disease Advisory Council. She also completed the Corporate Governance certificate at The Wharton School and studied acute care hospital administration at Marymount University.
GWSPH is honored to welcome Barbara Walczyk-Joers back to celebrate the Class of 2025 and the future leaders of public health.
