Nii Nortey Hanson-Nortey is a physician field epidemiologist with over 20 years of leadership in public health, specializing in HIV and tuberculosis (TB), epidemic preparedness, and health systems strengthening. His work strongly emphasizes evidence-based practice and research-driven program implementation, particularly in strengthening surveillance systems, generating data for decision-making, and contributing to national and global health guidelines.
As Ghana’s Deputy National TB Program Manager, he led innovative interventions grounded in research, including TB/HIV integration, drug-resistant TB treatment, and preventive therapies. He also played a key role in Ghana’s first population-based TB prevalence survey and helped develop policies and WHO-aligned guidelines, reinforcing his contribution to both operational and applied public health research.
In subsequent roles, including Country Director for Aurum Institute Ghana and Global Health Security Advisor for USAID, he supported implementation research and large-scale program evaluations, contributing to global initiatives such as TB preventive therapy rollout (3HP) and antimicrobial resistance surveillance. His work integrates research, policy, and practice, particularly in areas like One Health, biosafety, and outbreak preparedness.
Across his career, he has collaborated with international organizations and governments, providing technical expertise and strengthening data systems, research capacity, and evidence translation into policy and programs. Currently pursuing a Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), he continues to advance research-informed solutions that drive measurable impact in global health systems.
