Professional Enhancement Form Submission Information

All degree-seeking students in the Milken Institute School of Public Health are required to complete eight (8) hours of Professional Enhancement (PE) prior to graduation. We’re excited to share that the PE submission process has received a major overhaul with a new web-based form that's specifically designed to streamline the submission process! More information.

Professional Enhancement activities are designed to complement one's academic curriculum by helping them deepen their understanding of public health issues and prepare to actively engage in the professional community. These activities typically include public health-related lectures, workshops, webinars, seminars, and symposia, either in person or virtually.

Events must enhance one’s practical knowledge or professional awareness in public health, either broadly or within their specific field of study/interest. If you're unsure whether a non-GWSPH event qualifies, email your advisor a link to the event details prior to the event.

Documenting PE Hours
To receive credit for Professional Enhancement hours, all undergraduate and graduate students should follow the steps below:
  1. Track Your Activities: Log each PE event using the new, web-based Professional Enhancement Form. The form can be found on the Academic Forms page on the GWSPH website.
  2. Obtain Approval for Non-Pre-Approved Events: For events that are not pre-approved (generally highlighted in the student newsletter), you must obtain prior approval from your advisor. If approval is granted via email, save that correspondence as part of your documentation!
  3. Document Attendance: Acceptable forms of documentation include photos from in-person events, screenshots from virtual webinars, registration confirmations, conference badges, program schedules, event tickets, etc. Students are encouraged to back up their PE documentation in a dedicated folder on their computer or Google Drive.

PE Form Submission

  1. Student Submission: Students should complete the web-based Professional Enhancement Form and upload any relevant supporting documentation for each completed event.
    • Students won't be able to submit their form until they've completed at least 8 hours.
    • If you'd like to save your progress and resume later, click the button in the top-right corner!
  2. Advisor review: Once submitted, your advisor will review your hours to ensure you've satisfied the requirement.
  3. Approval: Once approved, your form will be automatically routed to the Office of Student Records to update your student record and the requirement will be marked as complete in DegreeMAP!
