Milken Institute School of Public Health students were among those who participated in this year’s Research Days, the annual two-day celebration of student research at GW.
Students from across the university submitted posters on topics in the arts, business, education, engineering, humanities, law, mathematics, health, medicine and more. Nearly 70 Milken Institute SPH students submitted posters this year, which saw record-high participation.
Milken Institute SPH Dean Lynn R. Goldman said that the quality and volume of this year’s research posters was impressive. Next to commencement, Research Days is her favorite time of the year, she said. “I love it when I see students engaged, developing their ideas, creating posters.”
For Kennethea Wilson, a graduate student in the Global Health, Epidemiology and Disease Control program, this experience gave her a greater appreciation for qualitative research. “I learned that qualitative research is really difficult—very time consuming—but the benefit of it, honestly, is that you get a true understanding of what’s really going on, on a more grassroots level,” said Wilson, whose research looked at the involvement of romantic partners in the prostate cancer treatment decision process.
