EOH: Exposure & Risk Assessment

Research
EOH research is leveraging satellite remote sensing and other novel geospatial datasets, machine learning techniques, and methods that assess cumulative exposure, compound hazards, and chemical mixtures, to conduct cutting-edge research. Using satellite remote sensing data has made it possible to investigate disparate exposure to nitrogen dioxide pollution [Kerr, Goldberg, Anenberg], using machine learning techniques has enabled researchers to identify areas prone to drinking water chemical contamination in private wells when monitoring data is lacking [Hu], and EOH researchers have developed frameworks using publicly available data and simple geospatial techniques to incorporate cumulative approaches into risk assessments at the federal policy level [Pullen Fedinick].
EOH research also uses systematic evaluation and risk assessment approaches to characterize, communicate, and assess potential environmental and occupational health hazards and interventions. Our research has shown that in the absence of chronic noncancer toxicity data, short-term animal studies may provide reasonable quantitative evidence to facilitate faster development of human health toxicity values for chemicals that lack long-term data [Gray].
